I know everyone is looking for that magical supplement, and friends, I have it for you. I travel a lot for work and for competitions. Being on the road ten days or more a month leads to a different set of problems for all aspects of training and life. However, while I’m on the road, I travel with a normal mix of supplements like protein, BCAAs, fish oils, pre-workout stuff, and others. However, without a doubt, the most important thing is fiber. If you aren’t taking a fiber supplement every day, you must hate yourself and happiness.
Other than my training, the most important moment of my day is within the first hour of waking when it’s time to go and take the Browns to the Super Bowl. Nothing is more motivating for a great day, great life, or great training session than dropping a turbo fiber deuce. That feeling of being cleaned out and ready to refill with all the “right” food items is a great way to start the day. By “right” food items, I mean mostly a diet of burritos and other meats wrapped in tortillas, but that’s just me.
Ask any real lifter and he will agree on the importance of max effort work in the can. If you’re already taking fiber, good for you. Keep being awesome. If not, you’re missing out on a life changing experience. I don’t care if you only eat salad. Well, that isn’t true. I do care and you should stop. No one got awesome eating just salad. Well, maybe taco salads, but that’s as close as it gets. But I digress…
Anyway, fiber supplements are easy to pick up and much cheaper than anything else you’re taking. For about $10 a month, you too can feel—and be—amazing. If you’re taking a fiber supplement that is anything but powder that goes into your drink, you’re doing it wrong.
Taking fiber is also incredibly easy. Take it right before bed, and when you wake up, the work is done. It’s like magic! I personally mix it together with my bedtime shake. My shaker cup is filled with one scoop of Somatomax (sleep GH release), two big scoops or a decent pour of orange flavored coarse Metamucil, 90 grams of chocolate protein, and one scoop of BioTest l-leucine (makes everything more anabolic). It’s pure function and tastes horrible, but I just power through it thinking of championship quality dumps and call it a night, mentally preparing myself for colon cleansing awesomeness in the morning. So, in closing, fiber is the number one for my number twos. Give it a shot and be unstoppable in everything. Or don’t and continue being average.

Haha, this article cracked me up. Just reaching for my untouched bag of psyllium husks now. How much do you like to use?
@Matt ..I am so freaking regular it’s not even funny…do you still recommend a fiber supp? I honestly can’t imagine being more regular than I am already…
Jeff, that is hilarious although I’m pretty sure “regularity” is a true/false kind of thing. Dietary fiber has other uses though in your GI tract so it’s probably a good idea even if you’re regular. Too much that can cause some unpleasant side effects so watch out. Great article, Matt, thank you.
this is so true. i take Metamucil every other day and it helps so much. i consider myself regular without it but there’s nothing like taking a huge dump with easy. it also cuts down on the farting. especially the smelly kind.
Hahahahaha
Matt,
Great article. I could not agree more. I just recently started taking fiber and life is now better. I was always overly regular. Now I am good to go! And it’s the only way the Browns will ever make it to the superbowl!
Thanks for not posting photos with this article
Word for word, awesome article. Time to break out the psyllium husk back out for me too!
If you are eating the right foods, you don’t need a fiber supp. And if you aren’t eating the right foods, you must hate yourself and happiness.
I use All Bran’s Bran Buds. 1/3 cup has 51%DV. I use 3 servings split up throughout the day. Life is great with all that fiber!
Great read, as I have aged it is important that the Browns finally make it to the SuperBowl. Although they did win a Lombardi Trophy they were just called the Ravens at the time.
Potential Side Effects
Since Psyllium husk-containing products, such as Metamucil, are sometimes used as a source of dietary fiber, the intake of dietary fiber could hinder the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and proteins.[3] Dietary fiber helps the gastrointestinal tract absorb excess water and remove food wastes, but an excessively high intake of dietary fiber will also negatively affect the absorption process in the intestinal tract. Taking a fiber supplement can decrease the absorption of minerals by decreasing the transit time, lowering the concentration of minerals by accumulating more fecal matter, and can also cause the minerals to become trapped in the feces, which would leave the body. This could affect individuals who may not be meeting, or could be just attaining, their body’s mineral and nutrient requirements.

My only question is will this make me go once a day instead of three or four
Sounds like you are just shitting out that unnecessary night time shake. Excessive protein consume causes constipation.
You could be REALLY AWESOME and mix dark greens and brown rice into your burritos and you’ll shit like a bear.
The overly-obsessive wolfing down of liquid protein does nothing but cause increased urea production with nothing to power it out of your colon. In my opinion, too much emphasis is placed on protein shakes due to non-stop advertising of the new late and great bullshit protein powder.
Even though I found the article absolutely hilarious, get rid of the nighttime shake and follow the recommendations above.
@ Granola or oatmeal works wonders too.
hm, are you telling us to take something that makes us crap more, so that we can crap more?
Just bought some Wal-Mart brand Metamucil because of this article. I’ll let you know in the morning how it turns out!
Why do you recommend the power over the capusles? I have been taking 5 capsules am and then again pm, with good results. It’s true. I feel great!!
Whatever happened to just eating some fruit like apples?
So i took some Psyllium husks as directed last night – nothing! I am yet to be awesome.
I recommmend it to everyone no matter how regular you are. It will make you awesome, if you are already awesome it will make you awesom(er).
Kiwi has natural properties to make you shit quick.
I mix metamucil with a green supplement and BCAA’s and take it in the morning and before bed.
It’s the shit.
If you live in California, maybe suggest getting your hands on “Not your Momma’s Granola”. Works for 2 of my brothers, although they are naturally gassy anyway.
I have had bad experiences with fiber. If you are already regular, and you add fiber, you will soon aquire permanent rings around your ass.
If you are already in the can more than you think is reasonable, look at your diet. Some people do not do well with carbs (esp fiber) at all. Just realize that if you cut out all the carbs you need to eat a LOT of fat to make up for that, and that can be hard to do with our current food system.
hahaha I loved this article. I’m a pharmacist and you wouldn’t believe the conversations I’ve had with people about their bathroom experiences… at the end of the day 9/10 times it comes down to poor fiber/water intake. As a side note – for anyone out their on fiber make sure you don’t skimp on the fluids!!! That’s how cement is made… Great job though Matt – I reblogged this on my tumblr (interfit.tumblr.com) and Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/theinterfit)
I’ve been awesome since starting the metamucil a week ago.
Instead of five bathroom visits every morning, now it’s down to one. I can leave my house pretty soon after waking up without worrying about the location of the next bathroom.
I also have a lot more energy and just feel better generally.
Thanks again for the article.
