Root beer was first invented by the good people that created the 13 original colonies and was being bottled and sold in 1893.
According to urban legend, Frank Wisner spotted some snow on Cow Mountain in Colorado and instantly thought of adding vanilla ice cream to his root beer. He called this new concoction the “Black Cow.”
