If you’re looking for some entertainment, there may be a traveling side-show headed your way. It’s been spotted in Michigan, Ohio and most recently in Texas. Where it will head next…we don’t know, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated whenever we find a sighting.
Have you seen this?

it looks like a modified deadlift/row.. i dont see all the hype? do the row without the hip extension and he might have to shave a few lbs off the dumbell.
Well John if the lift doesn’t work for you then don’t do it. However it is hard to criticize Kroc for it being that he is a world record holder seems to make me feel that he is doing them for a reason.
HVIII HVIII HVIII
“do the row without the hip extension and he might have to shave a few lbs off the dumbell.”
why would he do what you suggest? do you think he cares about what people like yourself think? form-nazis, gear-nazis, equipment-nazis, & random pricks? dude, he doesn’t give a shit. go tell somebody at the corner gym to stop deadlifting, or something.
Just goes to show that people like John are haters and simply jealous. THAT IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!
John: You just have to think of the Kroc Row and regular DB Row as two different things. They stress the body differently. The Kroc Row, for me, builds more upper back strength than lat-specific strength. It demands a lot of constant straining/tension in the upper back, grip, and abs/obliques. It isn’t a replacement for regular rows, but another good tool.
Really John? You don’t “see the hype” about a guy doing a 300lb one arm “modified deadlift/row” (as you put it) for 13 reps? Most guys couldn’t deadlift that weight for 13 reps.
strong like bull
the only word that can describe that is: AWESOME !
Looks more like a single arm stiff leg to me, still a freaking huge weight though.
clearly fake weight.
Ever notice that the guys in the gym using super strict form are always skinny and weak and are proud of their super strict 135 lb. bench. If you don’t think that 300 lb. dumbell rows are impressive you are a moron! Period.
clearly fake weight.
Seriously?…Why are posts allowed on here anyway. Obviously there are already a couple of douchebag trolls on here.
I agree that was awesome and a show of true strength
I wonder if these people claiming false weight and crappy form have even deadlifted 300lbs in their lives……
No Wonder Kroc seems to breeze through deadlifts. Thats just freakin badass. Bet his rear delts ache the next day after that monster row.
Anyone who critisises anything the kroc does for training better be a bloody world record holder or a radio shock jock
that is amazing, people who cant bench that weight are worried about form, they are the same people who dont deadlift b/c it hurts their back,,keep doin curls for the girls
The video angle actually is what is strange; found a different recording and looks more “rowish”. Amazing, also considering he is pre contest in these videos?!
The man is a beast. I dont care how he is lifting that weight or how his form is. If you can lift 300lb more than once with one arm, thats incredible.
Kroc is BEAST MODE!
WHAT THE FUCK DO THESE GUYS KNOW SAYING IT IS FAKE WEIGHT. A COMMENT LIKE THIS COULD ONLY BE FROM WEAK BIRD.
Awesome rows. John you try doing it, that is some serious bad ass weight regardless and at the end of the day it’s all about results – world record powerlifting total mean anything?
“I just dont see the hype” has definitly never done “kroc” rows these things blow you up!
first of all you have to be tight like no other movement, and then for maximal weight you have to know how to strain to even move the DB off of the ground.
I really love the quote about the commentor should have to be able to deadlift 300 for the same number of reps before he can say anything about someone picking up the same weight one handed for reps…. ……priceless!
KB-
300lbs for one arm rows is out of this world. I started working out in 1988 and for years I was all about form. I ended up in a gym with a good powerlifter. I started working out with him and I put on more muscle then I did in 16 years of good form. I use good form for small muscles, but for squat, bench, deads, rows it’s all about moving the weight. That’s why I also say good powerlifters please don’t everyone workout at home. Someone needs to teach the younger lifters how to do it right.
Any one who thinks this is fake is dumb. Mat Kroc is the man all you haters go back to ballys and anytime fitness look at your self in the mirror for two hours and tell me you are a lifter.
Hell, I’m just in awe of a 300lb dumbbell.
Kroc rows rock! Go Matt!
DB Row = No
Strong and sH** and Impressive = Yes
There was no “hip extension” in his rows. If you had a clue you’d understand!
Awesome job Matt!
my goodness, how can his spine take that torture? IIRC he has had disc injuries so you would think the axial and rotational stress would piss off the disc Guess not. But then, he didn’t start with 300lbs.
Or maybe it does hurt but he doesn’t care.
Amazing!
Three whites. JUST ROW IT!
Why is it that any time someone is moving serious weight all the skinny weak little people come up with lame ass comments ?? Whats up with that ?
“clearly fake weight”
it’s called sarcasm people, recognize it when you see it. he moves HUGE weight and has the records to prove it, so anyone stupid enough to think that was fake weight probably couldn’t even figure out how to post a comment.
Lets face facts:
Fact 1: Matt Kroc is an exceptionally strong powerlifter.
Fact 2: Doing strapless hi-rep dumbbell rows are an excellent assistance exercise. Any power lifter you ask will agree.
Fact: What is in that video is simply NOT a one arm dumb bell row.
There is little rowing motion and a lot of hip and back extension. Sure, it’s a lot of weight. Sure, I’m not as strong as Kroc. But take away the usefulness of building grip strength and any degree of a rowing motion, and the usefulness of this movement has expired. If you want to deadlift, then deadlift and call them that. It is rather disgusting to see a bunch of supposed lifters kowtow and genuflect to a person based simply upon their percieved authority or power, and refuse to open their eyes and call it like they see it. Those of you pointing to this movement and speciously making a connection between IT and the man’s strength and power-lifting total… please take a moment to pull your heads of of your asses. He got a world record total from intensity, intelligent programming, proper diet, and a good work ethic. Just because he does rows with poor form (admittedly I have seen videos of other rows with lesser weight and higher reps that are MUCH better form AND without straps), doesn’t mean that they have ANYTHING to do with his dead lift number, his squat, or his bench. Since when does a movement like what you see pictured in this video have ANY carry over WHATSOEVER to one of the big three? Kroc rows as he did them before clearly would: they are done strapless, and with stricter form, so that they strengthen the rear delts, middle back, and lats. You people need to learn to process information and think for yourselves. Suggested reading for your edification would be the words LOGICAL and FALLACY.
these comments are about as ignorant as they come…
wake up douchebags — 300 lbs is 300 lbs. you think Kroc does these for fun? obviously there is value derived from his methods and “form” or supposed lack thereof, otherwise you strict form guys out there would be elite lifters too. but that’s not the case, so….
shut the F up already !
I would have been impressed if he did it once!
People can argue on the “form” or debate on what to call the lift, but even if its a “one arm stiff legged deadlift with shrug/row, its a pretty damn heavy dumbbell and it looks like a useful assistance exercise. Not many people can even pick up a 300lbs dumbbell with too hands off the floor, left along move it for that many reps.
Anthony – regardless of the form, doing rows even in the manner Matt K is doing them now will strengthen your upper and lower back. Form is great, but cheating still has benefits if you know how and when you ought to do it. Anyway, beside the point, this is at a bodybuilding show, not at a gym, he is ‘rowing’ for the fans around him… so you can hardly say that this is representative of his training.
There are strict dumbell rows and there are now ‘Kroc Rows’.
As someone said two ‘different’exercises.
How many other new exercises have been developed over the last couple of decades?
The first guy to do board presses?
Now Box squats to styrofoam?
When Krepinsik developed the Safety Squat bar some lifters thought it was ridiculous?
Cheat curls vs. strict curls vs. cable curls vs. dumbell hammer curls vs.Scott Curls/Preacher Curls?
Which is correct/Which works best?
Are Arnold presses legitimate?
New variations and @ times completely new exercises have been experimented with and ultimately used on a regular basis.
I’d guess a lot of exercises that were new have also been ridiculed…..now they are standard operating procedure for a lot of lifters.
Kroc’s are Different from strict DB rows but looks like they are here to stay.
Kroc rows: Monstrous upper-back builders.
btw not the same john that made the first retarded comment. i just have to say huge effort matt really impressive; and anthony you are unbeliveable this was a one off show at the arnold and thats what it was A SHOW he didnt do it for carry over into any of his lifts he did it so people and himself could see how much he could do for fun not so his dead would get bigger or whatever simply type kroc row into youtube and you will see him doing his famous kroc row with much less ‘rotation’ and ‘hip flextion’ as you called it.
Again matt keep it coming and I’d also like to say well done in the NPC Michigan State Bodybuilding Championships.
He’s very strong and very large, yes.
But that video was a joke.
He probably does do those for fun. He is a beast.
This is at the 2010 Arnold Classic expo amongst hundreds of people behind the Muscletech booth. He is also 9 weeks out from his bodybuilding show at this point. The only reason any of you are hating on his “form” is because none of you can do them. Keep it quiet unless you can compete with it.
He train from child.
