I’m still going to drink half a gallon after I deadlift today though.

Where did that come from?.. Drinking it might make you hold a little more water than normal but thats more likely due to its natural electrolyte balance than estrogen.
As for high in sugar.. its a natural sugar, not refined so its unlikely to spike your insulin levels in the same way a can of coke would.
Soy on the other hand is not what you want to be drinking if keeping test levels high is your priority.. which of course it should be!
I’ve been drinking milk for years now in huge amounts and haven’t noticed any estrogenic effects or man boobs lol.. only increases in my dead, squat, bench, overhead press and lean body mass!
If you’re not cutting for a bodybuilding comp, drink milk by the gallon!

Hey I just wanted to make a correction because I know there is a lot of misinformation out on soy protein. Soy protein is suggested for women who have had breast cancer or want to reduce their risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. In most cases estrogen is the main culprit for why the cancer occurred in the first place which is why drugs such as tomaxafin(antagonist of estrogen in breast tissue) are prescribed for 4-5 years after treatment to keep lower estrogen in specific areas. Soy has actually been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer. That being said it is believed that soy may have a mild estrogen lowering effect in the body. Just food for thought there are many interesting studies on the subject matter and I would be glad to provide the links if anybody is interested.

I am, unfortunately, VIOLENTLY lactose intolerant. Not the “good” kind of violent, either!! However, I’d read that the protein in goat milk is much closer to the protein in human milk than cow milk protein. I tried it and found after a half gallon the other night that it gives me NO problems. Upon telling my training partners a couple replied, “that must be why it’s recommended for babies that can’t drink milk.” Oh well, live and learn. It costs more, but it’s worth it!!
So every mamal in planet earth will have boobs and high estrogen right?

To each their own, but….probably nothing better to drink after a workout. As for the rest of the day, just about anything you can find is better for the human body than milk. I gave up dairy. Does nasty things to your system. It’s kind of ironic how so much new and condemning info is coming out about dairy, yet the advertising on it has tripled. Hmmm……

If soy protein increased estrogen it would not make sense to me for it to be suggested to women trying to prevent breast cancer. May be a stretch; however, my Dietetics professor seemed to believe it had estrogen lowering effects. Data can be shown both ways so please do not take any of the statements I made as fact at all. I just thought it would be interesting to show a different side of the story.

Cows are my favorite animals – and it’s not just because of steak and burgers. I drink 3 to 4 gallons of milk a week, plus some bricks of cheese, plus cottage cheese. I don’t have ‘moobs’.
Estrogen is also found in the saliva of female mammals. Think of that the next time you’re making out with a hot chic…

To anyone hating on milk, the simple fact is that lots of people have gotten real big and real strong by drinking lots of milk. Sure, some people have bad reactions to it but that’s like saying we shouldn’t eat peanut butter because some people are allergic to it.
I do think raw cows’ milk would be a better choice than the stuff in the stores but budgetary and logistical restrictions are a reality.
For the lactose intolerant, I have found that acidphilus bacteria in liquid form, some lactase pills, and fiber (veggies!) are helpful for me. I can manage 1/2 gallon a day. Maybe more, but haven’t tried that yet.
GOMAD is the best thing you can do when bulking, i can’t wait for football season to start and end so i can start bulking up again.

Some additional information for anyone interested:
There is a lot of mis-information out there regarding soy and phytoestrogens (isoflavones). Yes, phytoestrogens have very weak estrogen-like activity but can also act like antiestrogens, reducing the effects of naturally-produced estrogen. This is one reason that soy might possibly be protective against the development of some types of breast cancer which are stimulated by estrogen.
There is no evidence that men who eat moderate amounts of soy experience any feminizing effects.

just because Mike Guadango(one of joe d’s clients) said that doesn’t mean it true. you have to have your own damn opinion about stuff. take a notice how lately people are embracing power cleans and overhead presses, while the “experts” say to completely ignore them, people are running hills and they’re drinking gallons of milk.
milk makes people big and i don’t care who says otherwise because it’s a tested statement.
i worked with Shelby to lose 60 pounds in 16 weeks. i rebounded back 20 pounds after the diet but was stuck for a few months. i modified the carb cycling. the foods i ate did not change, but quantities and timings changed, still no change. the only thing i changed after that was the addition of milk (2%, started at 6 cups a day with 1 scoop of casein protein) and my strength levels and weight shot up. with milk and casein protein, i am back to the weight i was before i worked with shelby, but total 200 pounds more.

Ed Dudley, not sure if you noticed this or not, but humans are the only animals to come up with tools for the milking of animals and preservation of that milk (preservation through refrigeration, which we also invented). Do you think a lion would say ‘Hey i dont want to drink hippo milk thats against my nature’? no, they dont care, they arent opposed to it they just dont have the ingenuity to come up with a system of doing it so its convenient to them.
Dogs and cats will drink milk every chance they get.

Already stated but we(humans) are the only mammal that drinks milk after being weaned….have to think there’s something to it. Not to say it doesn’t help with bulking and weight gain but so is cake mix or corn oil. I eat dairy in small portions yogurt n cheeses and half n half in my morning oatmeal if I’m training for a fight or bjj tourney but that’s all. So I’m a fence rider I guess….no wonder my ass hurtZ?!?!

Sure, we are the only animals to drink milk from other animals.
And animals wean their young while we go on drinking into adulthood.
We are also the only critters who cook our food.
If you literally want to go “all natural” that’s great. But bear in mind, you must not eat anything that you can’t bring down with your own two hands….and you must eat it RAW.
Animals that require a weapon or a group effort to kill are not “natural” food from a strictly biological perspective.

after reading a few blogs and article about this subject of estrogen in milk i decided to use actual research from the Journal of Dairy Science at the University of Pennsylvania. After examining whole milk from Holstein Cows researchers concluded that concentrations of 17-beta estradiol is low and does not pose a health risk for humans.

I don’t know if you noticed – but just because we have the ability to create ‘milking machines’, that doesn’t mean that ‘cow juice’ is good for humans.
Now I will go so far as to say, RAW milk from GRASS FED animals is probably relatively
healthy.
But that CRAP you are buying in the grocery store is not good for you. By the way, feed
a cat pasteurized milk and they get the ‘runs’. Feed a cat RAW milk and it won’t get the trots.

I like the idea of such things mabey not a gallon a day but when I follow a typical clean diet my gains slow drasticaly I feel when I eat a fair amount of healthy type junk food and even some no so healthy type junk I making way bettere gains and dont have to stress as much about making my calories. It is and extremely hard thing for some on with a normal life to bang down 500 or more healthy carbs a day consistantly.

Ed, isn’t it simply amazing that so many great athletic performances, bodybuilding physiques, and powerlifting records have been created over decades by including milk in the diet? Where is all of this supposed harm that antimilk alarmists want us to notice? Are all of these milk-drinking athletes dying? Becoming weak? Turning ugly? Starting to hear voices in their heads telling them to worship Richard Simmons?

Milk is one of the most studied foods on the planet, so if there were ANY clinical proof that drinking it was categorically “bad” for humans, we’d have known it by now.
Chocolate milk is a great recovery component to a workout. The nervous system needs glucose to function so the sugar in chocolate milk is important. After you workout the need to bring your blood sugar up is imperative and chocolate milk does that. Every human has estrogen in them. Levels are obviously higher in women than men. That estrogen comment does not stand. Soy is an incomplete protein, why take it? I have seen comments that milk is bad because they put all this stuff in it. If milk is the worst thing you put in your body with all that crap out there (supplements), you are in good shape…. Drink chocolate milk it will save you a lot of money….

Last time I checked, chocolate was way more anabolic than anything that the Mr. Olympia competitors are “taking”. So it has to be the best post workout drink out there. Duuuh! Fyi.. For what it’s worth… Google the phrase “Milk, Caner”. 16.4 million hits as I type this. Why does anyone need milk? When I ask, I get the typical response, “In my cereal”. Well, cereal is absolute shit and it shouldn’t be eaten. I get a lot of studdddders after that….
Almond, Coconut, and Rice milk can replace anything that milk has in anyway.. Why even take that chance?
In regards to Soy, Charles Poliquin will supply several studies that says that soy sucks. I like boobs, but I don’t like man booobies!
